An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SINGAPORE: Reports that have been circulating online of an attempted child kidnapping are untrue, police said on Saturday (Aug 6).

Writing on Facebook, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that a report had been lodged concerning a kidnapping attempt of a young child at VivoCity shopping centre. The incident allegedly took place on Jul 31.

SPF said that they "have established that it was not a case of attempted kidnapping" and that "there are also no other reports made to the police of such kidnapping incidents in other parts of Singapore".

In a comment responding to a user's Facebook post earlier on Friday, police also said that there had been "zero cases reported for Kidnapping from lawful guardianship under Penal Code (Sec 361 Cap 224) involving children below the age of 16" in the last three years.

They urged members of the public not to spread unsubstantiated information "which may generate unnecessary public alarm".
