TAIPEI -- Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party suffered a series of crushing defeats in midterm elections Saturday, in a damning verdict on President Tsai Ing-wen that will invigorate opponents in her own party as well as the pro-China opposition Kuomintang.
